Last Friday afternoon, I went to the store to pick up bread for Saturday’s group meeting.
I was going to put the bread on the passenger side when my glass water bottle fell on the pavement and shattered everywhere. I scrambled around for a bag and started picking up the pieces. “Ma’am, I can get that cleaned up for you.” I looked around and saw a young gentleman coming with a small box and proceeding to pick up the glass pieces. I was both thankful and guilty that it was my mess being picked up by a kind stranger. I kindly thanked him again and left the parking lot.

Thursday was a day when I received a message that caused discomfort and distress. I was rushing to figure everything out. Said a prayer and wrote a letter. This year was going to be different. I had my plans lined up. But there I was, worried, trying to pick up what had fallen. As I laid it all out to my friend over the phone, she listened and encouraged me. She mentioned that God’s plans are always better than ours. This all made me think of Proverbs 16:9, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

Fast forward to the same Friday night. During a walk-through at a church, I explained this to my friend who was leading it. She mentioned that sometimes Jesus steps in to pick up the pieces that have fallen. Our brokenness in the moment. Our hurt. Our plans. And to allow Him to step in. Even if we’re awkwardly standing on the side, feeling the unknown press down.
I do not know the outcome that will come this Tuesday afternoon, but I do know Who is holding it.
With all that, I leave you with this from Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

I wanted to share this song that has been running through my mind for the last two weeks -
